Power plays and papal pom-poms…

I invite you to read my latest piece at One Peter Five, titled “The Modern Crisis of Authority and the Abiding Prowess of the Papacy, Part I“. Here’s a sample:

Catholics are never positioned to receive some new teaching, but rather are always poised to accept a new and living teacher in the same stream of truth which flowed from Christ’s pierced heart onto the pages of Scripture and into the channels of sacramental grace. As Cdl. Ratzinger explained, “The true sense of the teaching authority of the Pope consists in his being the advocate of Christian memory. The Pope does not impose from without. Rather he elucidates Christian memory and defends it.”

It’s not my best writing, and is ungainly in many ways because I am still trying to formulate a more precise grasp of the problem I’m addressing. A bit of thinking out loud… on paper… which isn’t even paper, but an optical array of binary code. Yeah.

Thanks for the quote from C.S. Lewis. It reminded me of Fr. Hunwicke’s recent exhortations to “learn off by heart” Ratzinger’s description of Pastor Aeternus, cf. http://liturgicalnotes.blogspot.com/2015/01/pope-or-tradition.html.

  2. Dear B.C. You have a are talent for being objectively and subjectively honest and God has richly blessed you with intellect, industry, and courage.

Keep writing, brother; keep thinking, writing, and striving.

You prolly are not even aware of the positive impact you are having on many men.

Be kind, be (relatively) brief, be clear...
