The way you do that thing you do…

There is a fable of the centipede who dazzled all the other creatures with his coordinated movements, but, when asked precisely how he coordinated so many feet, he lost his grace and literally began tripping over himself. That is what happened at Vatican II. The Church tried to dissect the mystery of its own constitution, for all “the modern world” to grasp in user-friendly terms, and ended up casting itself before swine. And just as in Animal Farm, the swine became the new leaders.

In much the same way that explaining a joke ruins a joke, so explaining the Gospel as a sort of globalist five-year plan for “the family of man” ruins the mystery of God in Christ. Now that the Church has become, as it were, “self-aware,” it has become self-absorbed, and can’t help but trip over itself as it atomizes each “element” of its existence, whereas once it moved gracefully, addressing dogmatic kinks and heretical potholes in this or that leg as needed.

    Wow

  2. Branch says:

“In reality, there always have been in the Church, and there are still today, those who, while seeking the practice of evangelical perfection with all their might, do not fail to make themselves useful to society. Indeed, it from their constant example of life and their charitable undertakings that all that is highest and noblest in human society takes its strength and growth.” (St. John XXIII, opening of VII).

    That lethal word “useful”…

I’ve never heard of the Church being compared to a centipede. But this makes sense. Thanks.
